Corinthians defender Carlos Augusto insists they are still determined to gain automatic qualification to next year’s Copa Libertadores group stage.
The Timão are currently in eight place in the Brazil Serie A table, seven points behind fourth-placed Athletico-PR with three games remaining.
It’s a mammoth task for Corinthians, but Augusto said they are looking to build on Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Avaí.
Corinthians travel to Atlético Mineiro on Sunday, with Augusto expected to continue to deputise at left-back in place of the injured Danilo Avelar (shoulder).
“We know the difficulties we will encounter there, but we are going very motivated for this match, especially after the good victory we had against Avaí,” Gazetaesportiva.com reported Augusto as saying.
“We are firm and strong in the fight for this direct wave in the group stage of Libertadores 2020 and we will pick it up in the last three rounds.”
Dyego Coelho is in interim charge of Corinthians following the sacking of Fabio Carille, and he will remain at the helm for the rest of the season before making way for Tiago Nunes.
