The Brazilian state tournaments are back, which means we get to see a lot of the new signings in action with the first-team squads!

If you are unfamiliar, clubs that reside in the same Brazilian state from the Brasileirão all the way down to amateur sides face off against one another in an annual competition that can also see some amateur sides promoted to Serie D.

To help you with what to watch, we’ve put together some of this weekend games that are worth watching.

Saturday

Madureira v Vasco da Gama (Campeonato Carioca)

Madureira (Serie D) have a history of knocking off top sides in the Rio de Janeiro-based tournament, most recently in a 2-0 win over Botafogo two years ago.

Vasco will return with some familiar faces like Yago Pikachu, but unfortunately, new signing Bruno Cesar won’t be available for Saturday’s contest.

Sunday

Corinthians vs São Caetano (Campeonato Paulista)

One of the most popular matches this weekend will be decided at the Corinthians Arena.

São Caetano (Serie D) were at one point one of the best teams in South America. In fact, in 2002, they made it to the Copa Libertadores final.

Corinthians are coming off a horrendous 2018 season one year removed from the Brasileirão title, staying two points above the drop.

Corinthians won the São Paulo state tournament last season, defeating Palmeiras on penalties.

Flamengo v Bangu (Campeonato Carioca)

If this game was 30 years ago, it would be sold-out and the talk of all of Rio.

Still, it is worth seeing the game between Flamengo and Bangu (Serie D) to see how the Mengão will perform, especially the new stars registered with the CBF, such as Rodrigo Caio.

Unfortunately, Gabigol and Georgian De Arrascaeta will not feature, as Gabigol was just registered with the CBF on Friday, while the former Cruzeiro man is not in their database yet.
