Maxi López canceled out Luiz Fernando’s early strike to earn a vital point for Vasco, who now move two points above the drop zone with just ten matches to play.

Botafogo will also appreciate the point as they separated themselves a bit further from the bottom of the table. They are now four points clear of 17th-placed Ceará, who they play next week.

The hosts took the lead in the 17th minute. Kieza brilliantly chested the ball down for his team-mate Luiz Fernando, who blasted his effort into the net.

It wouldn’t take long for Maxi López and Vasco to equalise. Maranhão found López, who took a nice touch and found the back of the net after taking a deflection off the defender’s heel.

Botafogo tried to respond three minutes later with a solid header from Igor Rabello, but Fernando Miguel was able to make a nice save.

Miguel came up with another big save on Kieza just seven minutes after half-time to keep the score level.

The hosts had a couple more chances late, but were unable to get past Miguel as the two teams shared the spoils.

Botafogo will have another tense match on their hands next Monday when they travel to 17th-placed Ceará, while Vasco will host Cruzeiro in what will be a big challenge.
