Borussia Dortmund complete signing of Manuel Akanji

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the transfer of Manuel Akanji on Monday afternoon.

The 22-year-old defender joins from FC Basel on a deal until 2022.

Dortmund have reportedly paid around €21.5m for the defender, making him the sixth most expensive signing in the club’s history.

Since signing for Basel in 2015, the Swiss made 41 league appearances for the club.

He also made four appearances for Switzerland in 2017 after making his international debut.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the defender has called the move “a decision of the heart”.

Akanji’s debut for the German club could come as soon as Friday, when they face Hertha BSC in the Bundesliga.
