Boli Bolingoli hasn’t had the best start to life at Celtic, but the Belgian is confident he can become as good as Kieran Tierney was in green and white.
Bolingoli joined from Rapid Vienna this summer, as Tierney would make his much-anticipated £25m move to Arsenal later in the window.
“I know my qualities and I want to show them,” Bolingoli said.
“Every player is different, and I know Kieran Tierney was a big player at Celtic, and to replace him is a big honour for me.
“I want to emulate Kieran and the things he did for the club.”
Bolingoli has already made 16 appearances for the Hoops, but fellow Celtic new boy Greg Taylor is almost fully fit and Jonny Hayes could start filling in much more in a full-back role.
Despite the upcoming competition, Bolingoli believes he’s ready to make sure he keeps the starting job.
“For sure, I welcome that challenge,” he said. “Even when Kieran Tierney was here I said it would be a big challenge for both of us if he stayed here.
“With Greg we’re working hard every day, the coach can only choose eleven players but it’s a positive competition because Jonny Hayes is doing well as a left-back.
“We try to motivate each other and try to be ready for the team. We’d want someone of quality to come in and make the difference if they are required to play.”
Celtic will continue their Europa League run on Thursday when they face CFR Cluj, the same club that knocked them out of the Champions League earlier this season.
