Most Bundesliga clubs dread facing Robert Lewandowski but Schalke have learnt the hard way that you can’t run or hide from the Pole.
Another goal against the Königsblauen on Saturday was Lewandowski’s 19th in 22 appearances against them. Only Wolfsburg (21 goals) have conceded more strikes from the 31-year-old.
And Saturday’s effort set another Bundesliga landmark. It was the ninth meeting in a row that Lewandowski scored against Schalke.
Only once before (Schalke’s own Klaus Fischer v Stuttgart) has scored in nine consecutive Bundesliga games against the same opponent.
With 21 goals from the first 19 matchdays, Lewandowski is also on track for the most prolific Bundesliga season ever.
Gerd Müller also had 21 goals from 19 games in the 1972/73 season. The year before, Müller set the existing league record with 40 goals in a single campaign.
