Harry Kane’s last minute winner against PSV in the group stage of the Champions League has been hailed as the moment Tottenham’s season turned around.

Ben Davies reflected on the campaign in Europe so far with Spurs’ official website as part of their Champions League Moments series.

It was that game and goal which he believes was the most important on his side’s run to the final in Madrid, where they will face Liverpool.

After trailing 1-0 after 62 seconds, they battled back and two late Kane goals gave them the three points they needed in a win or bust contest.

“We knew we had to pull something out of the bag and after conceding early, they put 10 men behind the ball to defend,” Davies told Tottenham’s website.

“Thankfully, we got there. I crossed the ball from the left and Harry met it, there were a couple of ricochets and we’d won it.

“That is the moment that can define a season. It is funny because we probably played better in last year’s group stage when we were flying.

“This time it has been about grit, determination and players delivering moments of quality when we need them.”

Even after two weeks, the Welshman struggled to put words to his thoughts when looking back on their stunning comeback win over Ajax.

“When Lucas got the ball, I just thought ‘on target, on target’ and it went in so slowly,” recalled Davies.

“The way we did it was frightening! Everyone stood up to be counted. Lucas came in and delivered and it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.”

Spurs’ reward for their heroics is a first ever Champions League final against Liverpool at the Wanda Metropolitano on 1 June.
