If anyone knows what kind of pressure Leroy Sané is under to join Bayern Munich this summer, it’s Leon Goretzka.
Last summer, Goretzka eventually decided to join Bayern Munich on a free transfer after his contract at Schalke came to an end.
Bayern are looking to replace Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery on the wing and have made the underutilised Sané as their top target in the summer transfer window.
Despite only making 21 Premier League starts, the spectacular 23-year-old still put up double-digit goals and assists.
In an interview with Bild, Goretza was asked how he reacted to the rumours, considering not many top players move from the Premier League to the Bundesliga.
“I think that FC Bayern can definitely keep up in that regard. It’s still one of the best and biggest clubs in the world. Leroy knows that.
“He’s felt really good in England in the past few years. Now he has to decide for himself what the right move is.
“One thing is clear: we would all be ecstatic if he comes. But I’ll be damned if I put him under pressure or influence his opinion.
“I had a similar situation last year, had to make the decision for myself. And I was also of the opinion that one should do that best alone.”
The versatile Goretzka jumped right into Bayern’s starting XI and made 42 appearances in all competitions playing six different positions.
When asked if he had any regret joining the German giants, the 24-year-old made it very clear that he’s feeling fantastic in Munich.
“It was absolutely the right decision! Although it wasn’t easy.
“I delivered a super first season, played in very many games, could actually consider myself one of the starters.
“I got lots of goals and assists [9 goals, 7 assists across competitions], integrated wonderfully in the city and club. So I’m satisfied.”
