Bayern Munich have agreed to pay for damages caused by their own fans at amateur club Drochtersen on Saturday.
Midway through the second half of the Bavarian giant’s 1-0 win at the weekend, travelling supporters threw beach balls and other objects on to the pitch in protest over the German Football Association [DFB] and the German Football League [DFL].
Numerous seats were also damaged in the protest, thought to cost in the region of €6,000.
“Two years ago, everything was peaceful against [Borussia Monchengladbach],” Drochtersen president Rigo Goossen told Bild.
“It’s a shame about these 50 crazy fans. I didn’t expect that and I’m saddened. It has soured a little everything else that went so well.
“Bayern’s board made contact with us,” Goossen went on. “Bayern said they were really sorry for what the fans had done and would help us financially.”
Various Bundesliga clubs have used the cup games as a platform to protest against a perceived lack of willingness to address significant financial issues within the DFB and the DFL, with supporters embracing the motto “You’ll be hearing from us.”
