Bayern Munich are reportedly set to keep Javi Martínez this summer despite talk of him re-joining Athletic Club.
Martínez has found his influence limited under Niko Kovac, making just 14 starts across all competitions this season.
According to BILD, the 30-year-old sought talks with club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge to clarify his situation.
Bayern are said to be considering a midfield shake up with Thiago, Leon Goretzka, Renato Sanches and even Joshua Kimmich all competing for places, but the Spanish international is ‘happy’ to accept a squad role.
The Bundesliga champions have also enquired about Adrien Rabiot who is available on a free transfer after failing to agree renewed terms with PSG.
Athletic president Aitor Elizegi confirmed his intention to sign Martínez last summer but admits any potential move will be “presented with difficulties”.
