“Obviously we’re disappointed with the result,” Thomas Müller began. “We have to absorb that first. The game could have gone in any direction, but it ended badly for us.”

“It’s very bitter that we couldn’t win the game,” the team captain said.

The 29-year-old German international also stressed that the team has the chance to dust themselves off with a DFB-Pokal match on Wednesday.

“We must focus on that,” Müller said reminding media, supporters, as well as his team-mates that a hectic fixture list can provide opportunities to move on from disappointments.

Bayern manager Niko Kovač lamented his side’s failure to put the game to bed in the first half.

“We played well in the first half and Leverkusen’s game just didn’t function. We should have sealed the victory.”

“We should have rewarded ourselves for the effort we made. And if we had done, we wouldn’t be here now talking about the second half,”

Following the recent stumble, Kovač also redirected attention to upcoming matches.

“After seven wins in a row, we suffered a defeat, which is annoying. But now we have to start a new run.”

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić also spoke to the club’s site about their disappointing result.

“They took the fight out of us and stopped us from getting into our game.”

“We lost our compact formation, and a few mistakes helped our opponents score their goals.”

“None of us is happy, but we’ll crack on. There are still 14 games with 42 points up for grabs,” the former Bayern midfielder concluded.
