The second leg of Bayern Munich’s Champions League tie with Chelsea is likely to be played behind closed doors due to coronavirus fears.

That’s according to SportBild journalist Christian Falk, who reported on Monday evening that the match on 18 March is expected to be played in front of an empty Allianz Stadium.

Falk also reports that Bayern’s Bundesliga clash with Eintracht Frankfurt on 22 March is also likely to be played behind closed doors.

Speaking on Sunday, German health minister Jens Spahn advised that all events of 1000 or more people should now be cancelled.

The Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga are unlikely to be cancelled entirely, with the DFL stressing on Sunday that the existing fixture calendar should be kept to.

“The goal must be to find the appropriate path between taking the right precautions and displaying excessive caution,” said DFL managing director Christian Seifert.

“At the same time, there is no question that the season must be played through to the end of May in order to determine promoted and relegated clubs and the participants for European competitions.

“This is the only way for clubs and the DFL to have planning certainty for next season.”
