Reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are closely following Hannibal Mejbri at AS Monaco.
German outlet Bild report that the club are seriously interested in the 16-year-old who is playing with Monaco’s U19 team.
The talented midfielder has also been involved with the French Under-16 national team in addition to his experience with Monaco in the UEFA Youth League.
Die Bayern have already shown a trend towards recruiting younger players by signing Chris Richards, Alphonso Davies, and Jann-Fiete Arp.
Mejbri could join that list of recent signings with high ceilings in Bavaria in the summer.
The player’s current deal with les Rouges et Blancs runs through 2021 but signs point to a future away from the principality.
The youngster’s father Lotfi had been hoping to secure a move away during the January transfer window and when nothing materialised, he vented his frustrations to French paper L’Équipe.
“At some point, you have to weigh the pros and the cons. We are determined to leave,” the father said. “Today, tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, it is not a problem: we will leave. Period.”
Mejbri has not yet debuted for the Monaco first team and the disarray surrounding that club this season has not provided an encouraging setting.
