Bayern Munich have received an unexpected injury boost after David Alaba returned to training on Friday.
Alaba was initially anticipated to miss ‘several weeks’ after suffering a thigh injury, but the 27-year-old was able to partake in a light-session at Säbener Straße.
It remains unclear when he will re-join first team training but the first signs are positive.
An official statement read: “The final pre-match training session for FC Bayern ahead of the Bundesliga clash with FC Köln had not started as coach Niko Kovač received good news from the medical section.
“David Alaba, who picked up a muscle injury before the game at RB Leipzig, was able to start light training again.
“The Austrian completed a number of circuits at Säbener Straße on Friday before moving on to an individual session in the performance centre.”
Bayern host Köln on Saturday as they aim to regain ground on RB Leipzig.
