Bayern Munich have a comfortable 20 point lead at the top of the Bundesliga and it’s now just a matter of time before they clinch their sixth successive league title.

The question everyone is asking themselves in Germany isn’t if they will end up winning it, but when and where?

Mathematically, the Bavarians can’t win the league title against Hamburg this weekend, as there will still be 24 points to dispute and 21 points currently separate them and fourth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt. Therefore, the earliest Jupp Heynckes’ side can call themselves champions will be matchday 27.

Assuming they beat Hamburg, three points away at RB Leipzig on 18 March, combined with losses from their closest challengers, will see them crowned.

If that happens, it will be the earliest in a season Bayern will have officially claimed the German championship, beating Pep Guardiola’s 2013/14 side, which won the title on March 25 that year (also matchday 27).

If it doesn’t happen in Leipzig, then it could happen at home against Borussia Dortmund 13 days later. Victories against Hamburg, Leipzig and Dortmund will see Heynckes’ squad clinch the title – no matter what.
