Barcelona are keen on signing Real Betis left-back Junior Firpo this summer to give them cover in that area.

The 22-year-old has caught the attention of many with his impressive displays at the Benito Villamarín this season.

Sport report that the Spanish champions are very eager to add him to their squad in order to increase competition at left-back.

Jordi Alba was the only senior player for that position last season and Barcelona want to give him a challenge for his place.

Although the two clubs did hold talks at the start of May, that was mostly in relation to Betis asking about the availability of Blaugrana fringe players.

However, Barcelona did make early enquiries about Junior’s availability.

Despite having a €60m release clause, an offer in the region of €30m would reportedly be enough to kickstart negotiations.

Ernesto Valverde and the Barcelona board are both keen to add depth at left-back and have someone capable of putting pressure on Alba for a starting berth.

The 30-year-old clocked up close to 4,500 minutes of football last season and appeared close to burnout by the close of the campaign.

Firpo has a deal until 2023 with Betis, having joined their youth set-up four years ago.
