Two years after leaving in a sensational €222m move, it looks like Neymar could be heading back to Barcelona this summer.
The Brazilian’s switch to Paris Saint-Germain has been far from a roaring success and in an explosive interview with France Football on Monday, club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi hinted it could be time to sever ties with their world record signing.
“Nobody forced him to sign here. Nobody pushed him to. He came with a full understanding of the cause to sign up to a project,” said Al-Khelaifi.
The problem is that there aren’t too many clubs who need Neymar this summer, and even fewer who could afford his astronomical transfer fee and wages.
But according to a report from Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte on Tuesday, Barcelona are willing to offer an interesting compromise.
Their sources indicate that the LaLiga champions will offer €100m in cash plus up to three players in exchange for the 27-year-old.
And those three players are understood to be Samuel Umtiti, Ivan Rakitić and Ousmane Dembélé.
If true, it’s an offer that PSG would surely be foolish to refuse.
Sell a want-away player and get three quality additions to the squad, plus a hefty fee? It’s a no brainer.
But we’ll believe it when we see it.
