Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitić is set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up a hamstring injury during international duty and will miss Croatia’s Nations League match against England.

The 30-year-old appeared in Croatia’s victory over Spain but had to be substituted and has suffered a ‘small muscle break’, ruling him out for ‘two to three weeks’, reports Mundo Deportivo.

Barcelona confirmed the injury, affecting Rakitić’s right leg, on Saturday via social media.

The Barcelona playmaker left the Croatia camp and underwent tests in Spain and did not travel for Sunday’s match against England – coach Zlatko Dalić confirming he would be available.

Whoever wins the clash at Wembley will qualify for the tournament semi-finals while a draw would see La Roja progress.

While it is a blow for Barça, Rakitić is already ruled out of next weekend’s match with Atlético Madrid after picking up two yellow cards in the 4-3 defeat by Real Betis.
