Barcelona are optimistic about the possibility of Jean-Clair Todibo joining from Toulouse before the January transfer window closes.

That’s according to Catalan outlet Sport, who report that Barça could sign Todibo in the coming days and loan him out for the rest of the season.

But if they can’t get a deal over the line, the 19-year-old will move to Camp Nou on a free transfer in the summer instead.

Todibo is out of contract in June and hasn’t played for Toulouse since he told the Ligue 1 outfit that he had no interest in signing a renewal back in early November.

Barcelona reportedly fear that training with the youth team for the next six months could be harmful to his development and Sport say they are “moderately optimistic” that they can strike a deal with Toulouse before the window closes on Thursday.

The French club know that this will be their last chance to recoup some money on the youngster, and Barcelona are likely to pay a nominal transfer fee for his services.

Speaking to Sport earlier this month, the France under-20 international revealed he is desperate to join the LaLiga giants.

“The two clubs are negotiating, we hope they reach a deal,” he said.

“I’m impatient to play for Barça.”
