In what can now be affectionately dubbed ‘The Malcom Bowl’, Roma came from behind to defeat Barcelona 4-2 in the International Champions Cup.

Roma showed off their quality late, as they scored three times in eight minutes to take all three points.

After their shock elimination in last year’s Champions League quarter-finals at the hands of Roma, it was important for Barça players and fans alike to get one over on the Italians.

The mission looked to be successful, as Malcom, whose €40m deal to Roma was hijacked by Barça at the last minute, scored in the 49th minute to give the Catalans a 2-1 advantage.

However, Barça’s young defence gave away the match late through some very poor play.

Barça got off to another fantastic start, as they needed just six minutes to score the game’s opening goal. After pressing high up the field, Barça scored a really nice goal when Rafinha played a fantastic one-two with Munir El-Haddadi and fired home an incredible half-volley past Robin Olsen.

Despite controlling most of the first half, Barça allowed Roma to find their equaliser. Justin Kluivert made a fantastic run down the wing and found Stephan El Shaarawy, who tapped in his first preseason goal to make it 1-1 just 10 minutes before half-time.

Just four minutes into the second half, the internet officially broke. After a really nice passing sequence from Barça, halftime substitute Ballou Tabla got to the end-line and fed Malcom a tap-in with a scintillating cross. We can’t wait to see all the headlines in the morning.

For nearly a half-hour, Malcom appeared to have put the game to bed. Roma had different ideas, however.

In the 78th minute, Barça youngster Monchu lost the ball in his own half and Roma started a counter-attack that allowed Alessandro Florenzi to score an ugly goal to make it 2-2.

Five minutes later, Roma went ahead through Bryan Cristante. Barça’s young defence was opened up again and Cristante did well to break free and get a decent shot away, although Jasper Cillessen should have kept the ball out of the net.

This match got ugly quick. Chumi took down Patrik Schick in the area, which allowed Diego Perotti to step up to the spot and put the match to bed.

Obviously, the Barça B defenders have a lot of work to do, but new-signing Arthur impressed, as did Rafinha.

Roma will close out their tour of America next Tuesday when they take on Real Madrid at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey.
