Thomas Partey has been one of Diego Simeone’s most important figures at Atlético Madrid for the last two seasons and now the part-owner of Spanish fourth-tier outfit Alcobendas Sport is set to be rewarded.
Despite signing a new contract last March that will keep him at the club until 2023, Atlético and the 26-year-old are said to be working on a new deal.
Though the Ghana international is due for a significant wage increase, which will put him on equal footing as the rest of the squad, Atlético’s main intention is to increase his release clause, which is believed to be €50m.
It’s said that Atlético want to fend off other big clubs in Europe and boost his release clause to over €100m.
Both parties are more than happy with their current relationship and the deal should be done before the end of the year.
Thomas has scored twice in nine games so far this season, and has made 148 appearances for Atlético since his club debut in November 2015.
