A lot of the focus during the January transfer window has been on Manchester United’s pursuit of Sporting playmaker Bruno Fernandes.

However, another central midfielder could well be making his way to Old Trafford.

Atlético Madrid’s Marcos Llorente is attracting interest from the Red Devils, as they seek to find a solution for their midfield injury crisis.

MEN are reporting that the long-term injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay have forced United to seek reinforcements while the market is still open.

Llorente was the centre of one of the most intriguing transfer moves during the summer when he switched from one half of Madrid to the other, joining Atlético from Real for a fee of €40m.

The 24-year-old has struggled to break into the Atleti first-team however, starting only three games all season, and is yet to complete 90 minutes.

Saúl Ñiguez, Koke and Héctor Herrera have all been ahead of Llorente in Diego Simeone’s plans.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed that the club are looking to add more than one player to their ranks during this window, saying:

“We are looking at a couple of signings.

“Strengthening here and there, but the core group is there and the attitude is there and the physical robustness.”
