Atlanta United to host Club América in second-annual Campeones Cup

MLS and Liga MX announced that Atlanta United will take on Club América in the Campeones Cup at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on 14 August.

The two league champions will battle it out in what is effectively North America’s Super Cup.

The Campeones Cup was first played last season, with 2018 Campeón de Campeones winners Tigres defeating 2017 MLS Cup champions Toronto FC 3-1.

However, the match received much criticism for being played at the end of September when both sides were in the middle of an important run of games.

Atlanta United are coming off their first MLS title in only their second year in existence and are currently in fourth place in the MLS Eastern Conference.
