Mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi has confirmed that Roma can go ahead with building their new stadium by the end of this year.

The Serie A club had originally set plans in motion back in 2014 but met a series of roadblocks along the way.

Finally it has been given definitive approval on Tuesday.

“It is an ambitious project that will bring billions in investments to our city,” Raggi declared in a press conference.

“Approximately 500,000 citizens will benefit from the services and the infrastructures.”

The latest issues surrounded access to the stadium and traffic in the surrounding area but a solution has now been found.

The new stadium will be built in the Tor di Valle district of Rome and will have a 52,000 capacity, though there will be the possibility of expanding that to 60,000.
