Arturo Vidal says he will do everything in his power to hold down his Barcelona starting berth.

Vidal endured a slow start to life at Camp Nou but has recently become a regular feature in Ernesto Valverde’s starting XI.

However, with fellow midfielder Arthur now fit again after recovering from injury, Vidal is likely to face stiff competition for his place in the team after the winter break.

But the 31-year-old insists he is relishing the challenge.

“Do I feel like a starter? Yes, because I ended up playing but it’s a day-to-day thing,” he told DirecTV.

“If something happens to you, you lose the position, the competition is hard. I will work hard to stay in the line-up.

“It was when I played for the national team in Japan, that I realised I had to work every day, it’s difficult, you think you’re always 100%, but the desire makes you confused.

“I had a conversation with the coach and I worked to be in the form that I like, it was work and effort, so I could do what I like on the pitch.”

Vidal joined Barça from Bayern Munich in the summer and has so far made 21 appearances for the club, scoring two goals.
