Arsenal are hoping to offload Mesut Özil in the summer and the playmaker could move to a club in Italy or China.

That’s according to the Telegraph, who report that “intermediaries” are currently touting Özil around in the hope of finding a club willing to pay the former German international’s salary.

The 30-year-old has made just 14 Premier League appearances under Unai Emery this season and the Gunners are reportedly keen to get his £350,000-a-week wages off their books.

The so-called intermediaries are believed to have close links to Italy and China and though there is no suggestion they have been employed by Arsenal, the Premier League club are willing to listen to any offers for Özil.

The Telegraph claim the north London outfit are also hoping to drum up funds for their transfer kitty and could have as little as £50m to spend in the summer if they miss out on Champions League qualification.

The possibility of Özil being included in a swap deal for another player has not been ruled out.

The former Real Madrid star only signed a lucrative new three-and-a-half-year contract last February but he has now missed as many games as he has played this season due to injury or illness and has struggled to find any sort of form under Emery.

A report by the Mirror on Monday claimed Özil’s relationship with Arsenal has now reached “breaking point” and it will be very surprising if he is still at the club come the start of next season.
