Arsenal turned to Pablo Mari after failing in Gabriel Magalhães bid

Arsenal only turned to new signing Pablo Mari after they had ‘several bids rejected’ for Lille centre-back Gabriel Magalhães.

Gabriel has been in impressive form for the Ligue 1 outfit this term, starting in 29 games across four competitions and scoring one goal.

Le10 Sport have revealed that the Gunners made a number of bids for the 22-year-old but failed to meet the valuation set by the French club.

As such, Mikel Arteta’s side turned their attentions to Pablo Mari, who they signed until the end of the season from Flamengo.

Everton are also thought to have made moves for the Brazilian, but they also didn’t meet Lille’s supposed €50m asking price.
