Arsenal have announced that David Luiz is in line for his debut against Newcastle but Kieran Tierney remains some way off full fitness.
Both players joined the club on deadline day, signing from Chelsea and Celtic respectively to strengthen the defence.
The Brazil international has trained with the squad as normal ahead of Sunday’s trip to Tyneside and is in line to start.
However, the Gunners will be without their new left-back for their Premier League opener, per a statement on their official website.
A medical report following his arrival determined that the 22-year-old is still struggling with a groin problem.
That is expected to keep him out of action for another four to six weeks and he will continue to undergo treatment.
