Arsenal have been linked with a January swoop for Villarreal midfielder Pablo Fornals.

Aaron Ramsey’s impending summer departure means the Gunners are in the market for a new midfielder, and Barcelona’s Denis Suárez has recently been touted as a potential option.

However, The Sun claim Unai Emery is also interested in bringing another LaLiga midfielder to the Emirates.

Fornals came to the attention of the wider footballing world when he scored a stunning volley against Athletic Club in September, and the 22-year-old reportedly has a €20m release clause.

However, previous reports in Spain suggest the Spanish international’s release clause is actually €30m, and the Yellow Submarine are hoping to increase it by offering him a new deal.

Villarreal are currently struggling and sit just one point above the relegation zone in Spain’s top flight. Earlier this month, Cadena Ser reported that Fornals had rejected offers from Fulham and West Ham because he wants to stay and help his other club get out of trouble.

But if the former Malaga man finds the prospect of joining Arsenal more enticing, The Sun claim the Gunners may offload Mohamed Elneny in January to make room for a new signing.

The Egyptian midfielder is yet to make a Premier League appearance this season, and the north London outfit are reportedly prepared to listen to offers for his services.
