Arsenal have reportedly identified two potential defensive targets as they look to fill the gap left by Rob Holding.

A well-sourced story on ESPN has claimed that the Gunners will buy a new central defender next month after Holding was ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee ligament injury.

And the two men they’re currently looking at are Manchester United’s Eric Bailly and Chelsea veteran Gary Cahill.

Bailly faces an uncertain future at United after falling foul of manager José Mourinho.

The Ivory Coast international has played just six times in the Premier League this season and is battling to persuade the coach of his abilities.

It’s unclear whether United would be willing to sell a 24-year-old they paid €35m for just two years.

But one man who is definitely allowed to leave his club is Cahill.

The 32-year-old hasn’t played a single minute this season under Maurizio Sarri and has been told he can leave the club in January with his contract set to expire next summer.
