Arsenal are reportedly eyeing up a €9m move for Corinthians midfielder Maycon, according to reports in Brazil.

The 20-year-old impressed on loan at Ponte Preta last season and made 16 first-team appearances before returning to parent club Corinthians, where he has now become a regular under Fabio Carille.

Maycon was set to join Shakhtar Donetsk in January before his move to Ukraine collapsed and UOL Esporte believe Arsenal have now made his acquisition ‘a priority’.

Premier League clubs have often shied away from bringing South American talent straight to England but following the success of Antonio Valencia, Oscar and more recently Gabriel Jesus, a precedent has been set.

The Gunners require a shake up in midfield with the future’s of Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny and Jack Wilshere all unclear, with Maycon seen as the perfect signing to bolster their options.

Napoli are also understood to be keeping tabs on Maycon – who can also play at left-back if required.
