Arsenal’s head of football Raul Sanllehi has hinted at the reasons behind the club’s decision to allow Aaron Ramsey to leave.

The 27-year-old’s current contract expires in the summer and is likely to exit on a free transfer after a new deal was withdrawn by the Gunners.

Ramsey has been linked with Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Juventus and Milan, though Sanllehi has suggested it is best for the club for him to exit.

While he refused to comment on specific players, he did explain the club’s outlook moving forward.

“I am not here to talk about individual cases but to talk more of the philosophy we are bringing,” he told BBC Sport when asked about the Ramsey situation.

“Any decision that we take is thoroughly discussed, debated among several professional people sharing one common objective, which is what is best for the club?

“Any decision we take along this way, is always going to be based on whether this is good or bad for Arsenal, if it’s a responsible decision or if it can be detrimental for Arsenal, that is basically our main criteria in every step of the decision making.”

Despite his expected departure, Ramsey has still been selected by new boss Unai Emery and scored in the 5-1 victory over Fulham earlier this month.
