Argentina World Cup winner Daniel Passarella has hit out at Lionel Messi after his disappointing return to international football this week.
Messi was back in a blue and white shirt for the first time since Russia on Friday, but saw his side go down to a shock 3-1 defeat against Venezuela.
And Passarella, who was part of the successful 1978 vintage, has claimed that Messi has a “different feeling” when he plays for the national team.
“Messi’s a great player who can give a lot to any team,” he told Marca.
“But when he plays for Barcelona has has a different attitude to when he plays for Argentina. The feeling is different.
“For Barcelona he is far better.
“These things can happen – you play in a team and you do it well, they love you, but you do not feel at ease. Sometimes you do not fit in.”
Messi has pulled out of Argentina’s friendly against Morocco next week with a pelvic injury and has returned to his club side.
