Antoine Griezmann is set to join Barcelona this summer in a deal worth €100 million.

At least, that’s according to The Sun, who claim the Frenchman will bring to an end his four-year stay at Atlético Madrid at the end of the season and head to pastures Nou.

To be honest, we find it hard to believe that The Sun haven’t just made this story up, but after Griezmann came close to joining Manchester United last summer, it seems highly likely he will be leaving Atleti when the transfer window re-opens in July, and Barça currently seems like his most likely destination.

The 27-year-old is under contract at the Wanda Metropolitano until June 2022 but will be available for just €100m this summer when a release clause in his contract comes into effect.

Last week, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo reported that Atlético were hoping to renegotiate the forward’s current deal by increasing his salary to €275,000-per-week and raising his release clause to somewhere between €200m and €300m in an attempt to ward off interest from other clubs.

But were it not for their transfer ban, Griezmann probably would have left the Rojiblancos last summer and it seems unlikely he will want to stick around for another season after this one, whether they win the Europa League or not.

Griezmann has scored 106 goals in 198 games since joining Atlético from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2014 and on Sunday evening, he will be hoping to close the gap at the top of La Liga between his current employer and his potential future employer to nine points when Diego Simeone’s side host Deportivo.
