On Wednesday, 17-year-old Barcelona starlet Ansu Fati signed a new deal with the club that will keep him there until 2022.
The extension also notably took his release clause to €170m, up from €100m, and will rise to a staggering €400m when he signs a pro contract as a full member of the first-team squad.
After a blistering start to the season, Fati only played 114 minutes in November and didn’t see the pitch during the last two games, prompting many to believe he could head out on loan in January.
However, according to his father Boris, that will not be happening.
“Why would he leave in this window? He is youthful and he is training with Barça, learning from the best,” Fati told Cadena Cope.
“He is very happy; he cannot ask for more from Barça. He knows that he is youthful and that he cannot come down.”
Fati has scored two goals and added an assist in nine LaLiga contests this season and recently made his debut for the Spain U-21s after his nationality papers were processed.
