Steven Gerrard praised the bravery of Andy Halliday after the Rangers left-back played on despite nearly losing an eye in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Livingston.

Halliday went over the advertising boards during the game at Ibrox and collided with a metal chair that was turned upside down.

Despite the serious incident, the former Middlesbrough man was patched up and returned to finish out the game.

“Credit to him for carrying on. Most people would have gone off with that,” manager Gerrard told Rangers TV afterwards.

“Andy’s attitude has been fantastic in the last two games so we are pleased with him.

“He’s gone over the advertising boards and nearly lost an eye because the chair has gone into just above the eye. He’s had stitches and gone back on so I’m really pleased with his bravery and his character.”

The game was supposed to take place on Saturday, but was delayed a day due to the severe weather brought by Storm Dennis.

Conditions remained difficult 24 hours later, but Rangers were able to get the job done thanks to a low drive in the 59th minute from Scott Arfield.

The Gers remain 10 points behind Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic.

They will be back at Ibrox on Thursday for their Europa League Round of 32 first leg against Portuguese side Braga.
