In an interview with Danny Murphy for the Daily Mail, he has revealed what pushed him to make that choice and why he doesn’t view it as a regression.

“The fans were 80% of the reason I signed for Everton after a year on loan,” the Portugal international admitted.

“They made me feel wanted and we had a good connection. Maybe I felt that I needed that.

“I don’t look at it as a step back in my career at all.

“Coming to Everton meant being in an environment where I’m comfortable with myself.

“Last season was a big step forward for me personally and now I’m happy to be here full-time.”

Gomes has established himself as a key figure under Marco Silva, although he did miss the weekend defeat at Bournemouth with a rib problem.
