After announcing he will leave Manchester United this summer, Ander Herrera believes it is the right decision.

The Spaniard joined the club in 2014 and has since made 189 appearances for the Old Trafford outfit, becoming a popular figure among fans.

In opening up to their official website on his impending exit, Herrera admitted that it was simply the right time to say goodbye.

“It is a sad moment but sometimes the timing is just not right and you have to move on,” he told ManUtd.com.

“I have enjoyed playing for this club so much and felt so privileged to represent them. When you’re a United player, it is something special.

“When you leave such a big club you lose much much more than what they are losing. I owe the fans a lot.

“I can’t lie. I wasn’t born a Manchester United fan but a part of my heart will always be a red devil.”

In reflecting back on his time at the club, Herrera revealed that there was one moment which stood out above the rest.

“If I had to choose then I’d pick the Europa League final against Ajax in Stockholm,” he added.

“That gave us three trophies for the season and it was a European trophy which is never easy to win.

“It also got us back into the Champions League too so it was a very important trophy.”

Herrera is in line to make his final appearance for the club on Sunday in front of his own fans against Cardiff City.
