Álvaro Morata has slammed Spanish referees and accused them of having ‘double standards’ toward Atlético players following his red card for dissent over the weekend.
In an interview with MARCA, the former Chelsea striker professed his continued anger over his sending off.
“I think that, in the end, not everyone is punished in the same way. Yes, it’s clear.
“You only have to watch the images and matches. I said it with Costa’s sanction, that it would’ve been difficult to see it [given against] other players in LaLiga. In my case, I’ve already said that I was mistaken.
“You have to consider Atletico as a big club. That they respect us, sometimes they don’t see us like other clubs.
“There are double standards with Atletico Madrid.
“I think I did nothing serious, I did not insult anyone, I faced the defense because I am not stone, he came for me and he told me things that are not right.
“When it comes to putting or reducing penalties it seems that they want to take us as an example.”
After the international break, Atlético will host Valencia on 19 October.
