On Tuesday, Álvaro Morata further opened up on his awful time in London, where he struggled mightily following his then-Chelsea club-record £60m move from Real Madrid.
Morata moved back to Spain in January on an 18-month loan that will become permanent next July.
The 26-year-old is much more content on and off the pitch and discussed how his life has changed for the better since moving back to his homeland.
“It seems like the obvious thing to say to gain points with the fans but my family and I were coming from a really bad time in London,” he told reporters.
“Here we have regained our happiness. Though many people may not believe it, we spent four or five summers wanting to come to Atlético. I am very happy.”
Morata’s Chelsea spell was not only plagued with injuries, but his wife’s health was also suffering as well.
“I had to receive a lot of injections in my back. I do not like needles one bit so I would get home in a bad mood.
“She could not eat anything because she was very ill and had nausea.
“We both spent a lot of time in bed. When you try to understand the person laying next to you who is ill but you are worse. It was a difficult situation.”
Since Morata has moved back to the Spanish capital, he’s bagged seven goals in 20 appearances.
