Diego Simeone insists all his thoughts are on their La Liga clash with Valencia on Friday, as a huge week for Atlético Madrid draws in.

Atleti make the trip to the Mestalla for a game which could have a huge say in who qualifies for next season’s Champions League.

Then on Tuesday, this season’s version of the competition resumes as the holders Liverpool are in town for the first leg of the last-16.

First up, it’s the game against Albert Celades’ Valencia side.

Aleti currently hold the coveted fourth position in the La Liga table, but are only two points ahead of their hosts meaning a win for Valencia would see them overtake Simeone’s side.

The pressure has been building on the Argentinian recently after the team went five games without winning before last weekend’s crucial 1-0 victory over Granda.

Simeone, speaking at his press conference ahead of Friday’s game, was clearly focused on the task in hand:

“All our energy and thoughts are being put towards Valencia.

“I don’t think about Tuesday’s game at this time, I’m not putting any value on it.

“Valencia at home are very strong with their fans behind them.

“They have important players and we must think about how we can hurt them in such a difficult fixture.”

Simeone did confirm that Alvaro Morata is in contention to play, which will boost a side that has only scored two goals in their last five games.
