Higuaín scored twice in the Rossoneri’s 3-1 win over Chievo on Sunday, taking his tally to six goals in seven games – the best start to a season of his career.

And Del Piero believes the Argentine – who moved to the San Siro on an initial loan deal this summer – is performing better because he’s feeling the love at his new club.

“AC Milan need him so badly, both for his goal and for his leadership,” Del Piero told Sky Italy.

“Everybody runs to hug him whenever he scores, this proves how happy he is in Milan and proves he’s settled in well. Before his move to Juventus, he used to complain much more, at Juve he has improved and he has learned to play for the team as well.”

In fact, Del Piero believes Higuaín is actually fuelled by anger and a thirst for vengeance after he was effectively forced out of Juve.

“However, I think he is angry with Juventus,” added the 43-year-old former Italy striker.

“He wanted to take his revenge after being kicked out of Juve. He had positive seasons at Juve but he was sold, I think that’s the reason for Higuaín’s anger. Did you notice his celebrations? He opens his arms like he wants to be hugged.

“He is at AC Milan to solve their problems, he knows that and he loves it. He feels great in the group.”

Juventus and Milan will meet in Serie A on 11 November, and it promises to be a spicy affair.
