Ajax have been dealt a blow in the Eredivisie title race after losing Hakim Ziyech to injury.

The attacking midfielder managed to play just 59 minutes of the weekend win over Sparta Rotterdam before he was substituted with a calf issue.

And according to Algemeen Dagblad, he will now miss the club’s next three league matches.

Journalist Freek Jansen says the issue will rule Ziyech out of games against Groningen, PSV and Utrecht.

The 26-year-old has been in fine form so far this season, scoring six times and assisting 12 in the Eredivisie.

If he does miss all three matches mentioned above, he will return less than two weeks before the Europa League first leg clash with Getafe and have just one league game, against RKC Waalwijk, to prove his fitness.

The injury could provide a chance for Lassina Traoré, who has made just five appearances all season but scored and assisted on his only start of the campaign so far.
