Robert Lewandowski’s agent recently had a secret meeting with Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, according to reports in Germany.

Lewandowski was strongly linked with a move away from Bayern this summer after the striker claimed he felt under-appreciated by the club following last season’s Champions League semi-final exit at the hands of Real Madrid.

“In April and May, almost everyone took a shot at me,” the Poland international told Sport Bild in August.

“And I didn’t feel protected at all by the club; I felt alone in that situation.

“I didn’t score in two or three important games and suddenly everyone was saying, ‘Fire away at Lewandowski!’

“I did not see anyone who stood behind me at the time. None of the bosses defended me either.”

Rummenigge took particular exception to Lewandowski’s comments and hit back at the 30-year-old in an interview with the same publication.

“I’m quite astonished by this statement,” said the CEO.

“I came to him one time, in March or April, when there was criticism after the Champions League games.

“I said, I think the discussion is ridiculous. I won’t debate about a striker who scores thirty goals every year.”

In spite of everything, Lewandowski remained at the Allianz Arena and has begun the new season in blistering form, scoring six goals in all competitions so far.

And according to SportBild, the former Borussia Dortmund’s hit-man’s agent Pini Zahavi met with Rummenigge in secret at the Bundesliga champions’ Säbener Strasse training basis.

“Zahavi had long been on a collision course with the Bayern bosses and tried to force a change for his client in late May,” read a report by the German publication on Wednesday.

“Uli Hoeneß responded by publicly refusing to give Zahavi an appointment before the end of the transfer window (August 31): ‘I told him that I didn’t have time for him until September 2 at 2:30pm.'”

So does Lewandowski still feel unhappy and under-appreciated in Bavaria? Only he (and possibly Zahavi) will know for sure, but his form so far this season would suggest he’s much happier with how things are going.
