Wolves winger Adama Traoré has provided one of the metaphors of the season, comparing VAR to putting on a new pair of shoes.

Despite widespread criticism of the new technology, including from opposing Aston Villa manager Dean Smith, Traoré has urged players, managers, and supporters to be patient.

“If you have new things coming in in football, it’s the same if you have new shoes,” he said.

“When you have new shoes, they don’t adapt to your feet straight away, you need time.

“It’s the same with VAR, it can’t be perfect when it comes into the league the first time. It takes time, I’m sure they will watch the errors and I hope it will improve.”

Earlier this week, Traoré opted to represent Mali over Spain despite representing La Roja at the youth level on 20 occasions.

Mali kick off their AFCON qualifying campaign on Thursday when they host Guinea.
