It’s being reported that AC Milan are set to be banned from entering next season’s Europa League.
The Rossoneri are thought to be on the verge of being banned from European competition next term as investment fund Elliott Management try to take control of the club from current owner Yonghong Li.
Earlier this week UEFA refused to reach an agreement with the Italian giants over Financial Fair Play regulations.
La Gazzetta dello Sport have published a story on Saturday stating that insiders at Milan are growing increasingly pessimistic over the club’s finances, and are resigned to the fact that they won’t be allowed to take their place in the Europa League despite finishing in sixth place.
American publication Bloomberg has also revealed that Elliott Management, the hedge fund whose €300m loan allowed Li to complete the €740m purchase from Silvio Berlusconi a year ago, are willing to funnel more cash into the club.
It is that loan however, which has to be repaid in full in October with interest for a total of closer to €380m, which is proving the biggest issue for UEFA as they look to tighten their controversial FFP regulations.
Elliott could effectively take over ownership of Milan this way, but Yonghong Li continues to resist any attempts to prop him up.
If Gennaro Gattuso’s side are banned from taking their place in the Europa League, Atalanta would go into the group stages and Fiorentina would go into the qualifying rounds.
