On Wednesday, Mexico international midfielder Marco Fabián was presented as the newest member of Qatari side Al-Sadd SC.

The 30-year-old Fabián was released in December when his contract with Major League Soccer’s Philadelphia Union expired, leaving him as a free agent until now.

On Tuesday, Chivas boss Luis Fernando Tena revealed that they considered adding Fabián in the wake of the Victor Guzmán scandal, but there was no offer.

During Fabián’s press conference, he confirmed the talks did take place.

“I will be directed by a world soccer icon like Xavi; I hope to learn a lot. There was talks about joining Chivas, but I had no offer to join the team.”

However, Chivas fans should not give up hope. Fabián’s contract will only last until the end of the current Qatari Stars League campaign, meaning he will once again be a free agent this summer.
