🥊 The fight against relegation in Brazil

Onefootball decided to list the clubs that will (probably) fight against relegation this year.

The Brasileirão has not started yet. There are clubs that, starting this weekend, will be playing three competitions at the same time. But some teams, on account of their squad or history, are more likely to fall to the second division.

Paraná

Paraná achieved a historic feat last year, as they managed to rise to the pinnacle of Brazilian football by finishing fourth in Série B in 2017. This is the first time the club has reached the first division since 2007. With this record, there is a great chance that the club will have to fight to stay in Série A this year.

Bahia

Despite finishing second in the 2017 Campeonato Baiano, the club finished 12th in Série A, just seven points above the relegation zone. The club continues to put lower quality teams than the rest of the league and also lost Jean, Juniho Capixaba, and striker Hernane Brocador who went to Sao Paulo, Corinthians, and Grêmio, respectively. They are also playing in the Copa Sudamericana, which could make it possible that the team fails to focus on the Brasileirão, at least in the beginning of the competition, which can cost dearly more ahead.

Ceará

Like Paraná, Ceará arrives in Série A after a long time away. More precisely seven years. The club maintained coach Marcelo Chamusca, which is a positive sign, in addition to players like Pedro, Ken, and Elton. The team is focusing on both the Brasileirão and the Northeast Cup – the quarter-finals roll on May 3 against the CRB. The lack of squad depth to perform admirably in both the Northeast Cup and Série A is the reason they appear on our list.

Sport

Sport narrowly escaped relegation last year. This year, they lost to Central in the semi-final of the 2018 Campeonato Pernambucano.

In addition, the team lost Diego Souza and the leaders admit that the club are not in great financial shape. Sport will not waste money to sign someone of the caliber that Série A demands. The team must, once again, strive to stay in the elite of Brazilian football.
