Rodrygo announces himself

There are worse ways to introduce yourself to the Santiago Bernabéu crowd than creating two pieces of Champions League history.

Against Galatasaray, Rodrygo became the quickest player to score a brace (6m 14s) and the youngest ever Brazilian (18y 301d) to score in the competition.

All three of his strikes were taken brilliantly and even though his manner looks generally reserved, you don’t doubt his self-assurance for a moment.

Real Madrid have focused on recruiting youth in recent years and Rodrygo already looks an impressive piece of business.

Everybody loves a villain

Sergio Ramos. You either love him or hate him. Either way, you know he absolutely loves being the pantomime villain.

The master of the tactical foul. The elbow connoisseur. Panenka enthusiast. Top bins expert.

Does your 18-year-old team-mate need a penalty to score a hat-trick? Forget about it.

This is Ramos’ game and you play by Ramos’ rules. Imagine it being any other way.

Karim the dream

It’s fair to say opinions fluctuate on Karim Benzema, but his brace on Wednesday placed him alongside the all-time greats.

He became the third player to score 50 Champions League goals for Real Madrid, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo (109) and Raúl (66).

People, personalities and talent come and go, but the Frenchman has been a constant for Los Blancos and it’s no surprise Florentino Pérez loves him.

With a few years left in him – we’re expecting that tally to rise.
