Every year, the challengers come. And every year, the challengers fall.

Despite some valiant attempts, nobody has been able to match Arsenal’s Invincible side from 2003/04 who went an entire Premier League season unbeaten.

But this time it feels different. Liverpool are ominously good and seem to be handling whatever life throws at them… somehow.

Tottenham were hit with a significant blow on Thursday as leading scorer Harry Kane was ruled out for three months.

This frontline, however, proved that there is life beyond their captain after springing to life in the last 25 minutes.

There was a shock inclusion to Spurs’ starting line-up with 20-year-old Japhet Tanganga making his first Premier League appearance.

But the academy graduate handled himself well, after manager José Mourinho revealed he picked him because he was “very fast”.

Tanganga made three tackles, three interceptions and a monstrous seven clearances, even if his passing accuracy (72%) was found wanting.

Unfortunately, his soul was stolen by Roberto Firmino who went on to score the game’s only goal shortly after. Fine margins, eh?
